A team member must make the same checks onthe captain’s apparatus. The judges will observe theoperation <strong>and</strong> adjustment of the apparatus.The captain should see that the team line is properlystretched out <strong>and</strong> that the team members are holding or areattached to the team line.If a team encounters smoke, an apparatus check orpersonnel check is required before entering smoke. Insmoke, all team members must have hold of, or be fastenedto, a lifeline.The captain must now have the team count off eitherorally or visually by the raising of h<strong>and</strong>s.The captain must give the signal to advance. The stretcherbearers should pick up the stretchers, <strong>and</strong> the rear captain16
