MONTHLY APPARATUS CHECKS/PROBLEM DIAGNOSIS1. Monthly checks must be performed in order from theex ha la tion valve test for ward and re corded. If and whendeficiencies are encountered, contestants must call outto the judge and prop erly cor rect and re cord any and allde fi cien cies. High and me dium pres sure leak checksmust be per formed while the ox y gen is in the on po si -tion (af ter the pre-flush test); vi su als can be per formedat any time dur ing the 30-minute time limit.2. Hoses must be connected to the RZ-25 tester and thebreath ing ap pa ra tus prior to any re pair work, other thanvi sual ex am i na tion.3. Contestants may return to correct any uncorrectedde fi cien cies within the time limit. The monthly ap pa ra -tus checks will be those found on page 62 of this book -let ti tled "Judge's Work ing Score card for the DraegerBG-174A."4. If contestants perform checks out of order, there wilbe a one-time dis count of five (5) points as sessed.5. If checks are performed incorrectly, checks will bedis counted as not per formed. For ex am ple: ex ha la tiontest per formed with the dial on the RZ tester set onpositive.6. Thirty (30) minutes will be allowed to complete allchecks, re cord and cor rect any and all de fi cien cies, andbe ready to wear. There will be a five (5) min ute warn -ing given by the judge when time is about to ex pire.7. Fifteen (15) discounts will be assessed for eachde fi ciency not found.8. Five (5) discounts will be assessed for eachdeficiency not corrected.9. Five (5) discounts will be assessed for each monthlycheck not per formed.60
10. Sucking or blowing on valves with one’s mouthwhile mak ing checks is pro hib ited. There will be a ten(10) point dis count as sessed for each in frac tion.11. For completion, the contestant must have the apparatusfully as sem bled with hoses at tached to face piece andcon nected to the ap pa ra tus and draped over the cover(ready to wear). If the con tes tant does not leave the ap -pa ra tus in “ready-for-use” con di tion, a five (5) pointdis count will be assessed.12. If the prob lem is not com pleted in the spec i fied time,an ad di tional ten (10) dis counts will be as sessed.JUDGING1. All judges must successfully complete a Bench trainingcourse as pre scribed by the Con test Di rec tor per the ap -pa ra tus they are go ing to judge.2. Judges must stand clear of the contestants.3. Prior to and between each contestant, the judges shallper form monthly ap pa ra tus checks and cor rect any andall un planned de fi cien cies.4. When unplanned deficiencies are encountered, judgesshall stop the clock, in struct con tes tants to turn his/herback to the bench area, at which time the judge willcor rect the de fi cien cies. Judges shall in struct con tes -tants that upon turn ing back to face the ap pa ra tus, theclock will start. If the de fi cien cies are caused by thecon tes tant, the clock will not be stopped.61
