PROCEDURES FOR GETTING UNDER OXYGENDRAEGER BG-4 BREATHING APPARATUSProcedures for getting under oxygen:1. Prior to don ning the ap pa ra tus, make sure a filled cyl in -der, a fresh soda lime pack, and an ice block for thebreath ing air cooler are in stalled. Don the ap pa ra tus andad just the har ness and belt.2. Don the facepiece by spread ing the head har ness withhands; put chin into chin sup port and pull har ness overthe head. Tighten the chin straps first, then the tem plestraps, and then the top head strap. The facepiece mustbe suf fi ciently tight on the face to pre vent leak age of thebreath ing air which could shorten the du ra tion of theapparatus.3. Open cyl in der valve fully.4. Check the dig i tal pres sure gauge to see that a suf fi cientox y gen sup ply re mains. The green LED light should bedis played. Press the by-pass valve to check the by-passvalve op er a tion.5. Check the facepiece tight ness by tightly clos ing bothbreath ing hoses and in hal ing. The facepiece should col -lapse against the face, in di cat ing there are no leaks.6. Each team mem ber and ap pa ra tus should be re checkedby the team cap tain. The team cap tain and ap pa ra tusshould be re checked by a team member.Items to be checked prior to going underground and at20 minute intervals:1. Visually check apparatus.2. Check pres sure gauge.3. Ques tion mem ber as to mem ber’s abil ity to con tinue.57
