AMERICAN BRITTANY JUDGES EDUCATION1. The chairman of this committee maintains and updates the judges’ education brochures and the slideprograms used in the seminars.2. The chairman sends brochures to all prospective judges.3. The chairman sends brochures and tapes to people who are holding seminars.4. All judges’ education seminars are to be channeled through the judges’ education chairman. The ABC slideshow and brochures are to be used as educational materials at all seminars. (1997)5. Effective 2007, the Judges’ Education Committee budget was increased to from $500 to $700.6. Effective 2008, the following is the criteria for being an ABC Mentor:1. A full member in good standing of the American Brittany Club for the past 12 years.2. A full member of a regional Brittany Club for the past 12 years.3. Having bred, whelped and raised Brittany litters would be considered helpful.4. Having attended the ABC <strong>National</strong> Events that include both conformation andperformance field trials5. The applicant, to be effective, should:a. Be well versed in the history of the Brittany.b. Understand the Brittany Performance Standard.c. Have experience with the process of judging in conformation and performance.d. Be willing to have prospective judges come to their home or kennel to observe anddiscuss Brittanys.e. Attend any classes or meetings for mentors when possible.f. Realize that their conduct reflects on the ABC at all times.g. Should be unbiased.h. Adhere to Brittany standard and its quest to keep the breed “forever dual” in keeping with theABC Mission Statement.7. Effective 2009, the Board of Directors voted to give the Judges' Education Committee the ability todetermine if a candidate for an ABC Mentor/Presenter meets the qualifications as outlined in the ABC Policy Book.The Chairman of the Committee will take a written vote by email, U.S. mail, or fax approving or disapproving ofcandidates with a majority vote of committee members. If a committee member casts a NO vote, they shall indicateon the ballot which of the ABC Mentor's Criteria (item # 6, number and/or letter) listed on the American BrittanyJudges' Education section of the Policy Book that the candidate fails to meet. While individual votes will remainconfidential as though the committee is meeting in Executive Session to discuss personnel, ballots will be sent to theABC President, an ex-officio member of all committees, for verification of the vote, yes and no. If a candidate isrejected by a majority vote of the Judges' Education Committee, the candidate shall be notified by the CommitteeChair and advised of the reason(s) for the negative vote. (2009) In 2010, the Board of Directors voted to allow thecommittee to add categories that a rejection might fall into: (1) Insufficient information and (2) Does not meetqualifications at this time. The Board also voted to revise the application to add information about field trials, hunttests, and attitudes regarding the Dual Dog. (2010)The ABC recommends that regional <strong>club</strong>s hire judges who have attended a judge’s education seminar within fiveyears whenever possible.The ABC recommends that judges for the Summer Specialty meet the five year judge’s education requirement. TheBoard acknowledges that this is not always possible but ever y effort should be made to hire judges who haveattended a breed seminar within five years. (2008)132
