DUTIES OF THE MANAGING EDITOR"THE AMERICAN BRITTANY" MAGAZINE (<strong>2012</strong>)(Per By-Laws adopted December 2, 1975, Art 6, Sec 7): The Board of Directors shall have the power to select the person to actas Managing Editor of "The American Brittany", the Club publication, set any salary and authorize the necessary expenses. TheManaging Editor shall serve at the pleasure of the Board of Directors under direction of the Magazine Committee for the bestinterest of The American Brittany Club. (<strong>2012</strong>)In the absence of a Managing Editor, the Magazine Committee, as defined above, along with the Publisher shall be responsiblefor the following duties of the Managing Editor. (<strong>2012</strong>)1. The Managing Editor of the magazine must be a person with Brittany experience with a background of both field andshow, and should be very experienced with years of participation in Brittany affairs, hopefully on the <strong>National</strong> Level as well asthe local level. The person should have personal relationship skills with the ability to maintain harmonious relations with thepublishing Editor, the magazine Committee, the Board of Directors, and the ABC membership in general. Preferable:Knowledge of editing and printing requirements, knowledge of Board Policy, knowledge of various "The American Brittany"editors and their work, and a willingness to work for the Board of Directors under the direction of the Magazine Committee.2. The Managing Editor of "The American Brittany" magazine solicits, selects, and edits material and advertising for themagazine, causing same to be printed, addressed, and mailed by the Publishing Editor to the duly paid, Life, HOF members ofABC and complimentary copies to sponsors, AKC and contributing editors. (<strong>2012</strong>)3. The Managing Editor should see that the official communications of the ABC are published when sent by dulyauthorized personnel. The format chosen by the Managing Editor shall be attractive and desirable to the further promotion ofthe <strong>Breed</strong>.4. The Managing Editor shall abide by the policies set forth by the Board and shall present any radical change from<strong>policy</strong> to the Magazine Committee and Board before acting. The Managing Editor shall be responsible for adhering to allpolicies concerning the magazine as given in the Policy Book.5. The Managing Editor has license to accept or reject submitted articles and advertising as deemed necessary to maintainthe high standard of "The American Brittany." Should conflicting opinions arise between the contributor, advertiser and theManaging Editor and impasse is reached, the Magazine Committee should be consulted and thus accept full responsibility formaking decisions about the situation. Special concern should be given to statements made in articles and/or advertising whichmay be misleading to new readers.6. The Managing Editor shall strive to meet the varied interests of all aspects of the Club membership in choosingmaterial for the magazine. However, the Managing Editor shall not allow the expressing of personal opinions on Club mattersor on personalities including those of the Contributing Editors.7. The Managing Editor shall make sure the Qualifications for all <strong>National</strong> Championships are published in the nextpossible magazine AFTER they have been approved by the AKC. (<strong>2012</strong>)8. The Managing Editor shall make particular effort to showcase all <strong>National</strong> events in the magazine. The <strong>National</strong>Championships especially shall be given prime location and considerable space as well as a variety of pictures.9. The Managing Editor shall make sure the names and records of the dog(s) and/or bitch(es) that have been nominatedfor the Hall of Fame as provided by the Chairman of the ABC Hall of Fame Committee are published each year with theCommittee Reports and Agenda Items. (2009)10. The Managing Editor shall control the material and format of the magazine, subject to the approval of the MagazineCommittee. The Managing Editor reserves the right to edit all copy. The Managing Editor is not responsible for, nor necessarilyagrees with the opinions expressed in the magazine.62
