CheungHarward Hughes Medical Institute, Departments of Pediatrics & Genetics,University of Pennsylvania, USAVivian G. Cheung is an investigator of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute and aprofessor of Pediatrics and Genetics at the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Cheungreceived her B.S. from the University of California, Los Angeles, and her M.D. fromTufts University School of Medicine. Dr. Cheung is a pediatric neurologist; herresearch focuses on human genetics and genomics. In particular, her lab studiesnormal variation in human traits and genetics of complex diseases. She and hercolleagues demonstrated that like other quantitative traits, expression levels of genesare variable and genetically regulated. This led to the field of genetics of geneexpression which played a significant role in identifying polymorphic regulation ofhuman gene expression. Findings from these studies have promoted a betterunderstanding of the interactions and functions of thousands of genes in the humanand other genomes. In addition, her group studies genetics of human meioticrecombination and responses of human cells to cellular stresses and perturbations. Forher contribution to human genetics, Dr. Cheung had received several awards includingthe Curt Stern Award for pioneering research from the American Society of HumanGenetics in 2010.2011년도 생화학분자생물학회 연례국제학술대회19
