TEXAS TECH UNIVERSITYHEALTH SCIENCES CENTERThe Texas Tech University Health SciencesCenter (TTUHSC) located in Amarillo’s 417-acre Harrington Regional Medical Centercomplex, is a major center for medicaleducation, research, and patient care for thetwenty-six counties <strong>of</strong> the Texas Panhandle.People from across the Texas Panhandle andadjacent states come to Amarillo for specializedcare and many <strong>of</strong> them depend onTTUHSC to provide that care. Amarillo ishome to the main campus <strong>of</strong> the TTUHSCSchool <strong>of</strong> Pharmacy (SOP) and regionalcampuses for TTUHSC’s School <strong>of</strong> Medicine(SOM) and School <strong>of</strong> Allied Health Sciences(SOAHS). The state-<strong>of</strong>-the-art pharmacy programhas grown steadily since it opened in1996 increasing its class size at the Amarillocampus to over 115 students. The growth hasalso produced regional campuses in Abilene,Lubbock, and Dallas/Fort Worth. The SOP inAmarillo has the distinctive honor <strong>of</strong> beingthe site <strong>of</strong> the Texas Pharmacy Museum.The Amarillo regional campus for theTTUHSC SOM provides approximately eightytwomedical students and seventy-nine residentswith medical studies and training using aone-to-one resident-to-faculty ratio. Medicaleducation includes instruction for junior andsenior medical students and training <strong>of</strong> house<strong>of</strong>ficers in Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, FamilyMedicine, and Obstetrics and Gynecology.The TTUHSC SOAHS regional campusprovides education to Physical Therapy andOccupational Therapy students in a 155,000square foot facility that houses the academicand clinical programs for the SOAHS physicaltherapy regional program and the SOM.Lecture classes are presented in combinationwith faculty in Amarillo, Lubbock, andOdessa, yet has a true campus environment inAmarillo. The TTUHSC SOAHS has workingrelationships and clinical affiliations with localhealthcare agencies in Amarillo like BaptistSt. Anthony’s Health System, the Thomas E.Creek Veteran Affairs Medical Center, andNorthwest Texas Healthcare System.AMARILLO - Faces, Places & Open Spaces198
