Spanning a period <strong>of</strong> eightyfouryears, it started with the purchase <strong>of</strong>Amarillo Mantle Brick and Tile Company in1927 by Joe Jenkins. A diverse product baseenabled Jenkins to survive the Depression andprepared the company to supply constructionmaterials during WWII.When Joe’s son Al returned from militaryservice after WWII, they operated thebusiness together and changed the name toJenkins Brick and Supply. In 1947 as thecompany expanded, it was relocated to itscurrent location at 820 West Sixth Street.After Joe’s retirement in 1959, Al took overand changed the focus <strong>of</strong> the company toresidential doors and windows. The productline evolved from brick and mantles towindows, doors, trim, and hardware. Jenkinsstarted manufacturing windows in 1962 andadded a pre-hung door facility in 1972. Bothfacilities still operate today.In the early 1980s brick was eliminatedfrom the product mix and the name waschanged to Jenkins Doors and Windows.The new name more accurately reflected thenature <strong>of</strong> the business. In 1982, AnthonyLedwig went to work as a salesman andworked up to a minority partner. In 2000,Al retired and Anthony purchased thebusiness. A desire to perpetuate the proudfamily tradition continues with the addition<strong>of</strong> the three Ledwig children to the list <strong>of</strong>employees. The oldest, Rob, went to work in2004, his middle son, Chuck, in 2007, andhis youngest, Regina, in 2011. A dedicated,loyal, and knowledgeable staff has enabledthe company to thrive during the years witha combined 115 years <strong>of</strong> experience betweenthe eleven employees.The Jenkins staff works with architects,builders and homeowners to provide the bestdoors and windows available on the markettoday. They work closely with the designteam, the frame carpenters, and the finishtrim carpenters to insure a smooth transitionfrom the drawings on the plans to thefinished home.
