They enjoy customizingthe restaurants, giving them an Amarillofeel by doing things like erecting a CenterCity “Hoof Prints” horse being ridden byRonald McDonald.The Dana’s goal as a family business is“to make our customers’ day” and “to giveback to our community.” That challenge hasled them to rebuild many of the restaurantsin Amarillo, and they will continue rebuildingmore in the next few years and grow withinthe communities they proudly serve. Also,McDonald’s Restaurants are very active inthe community. McDonald’s in Amarillo hostsmany school fundraisers and supports manylocal organizations and charities.A charity very near and dear to their heartsis the Ronald McDonald House; they arethankful the community came together andbuilt a Ronald McDonald House in Amarillo.In 2009 all local McDonald’s owner/operatorshelped organize a fundraiser with theAmarillo Symphony to benefit the RonaldMcDonald House of Amarillo where RonaldMcDonald himself conducted the orchestra.The Amarillo Ronald McDonald House operateswith funds received from area companies,individuals, and organizations.The facility, located in the HarringtonRegional Medical Center is the only placewhere entire families have a “home away fromhome” so they can concentrate on the healthof their child while he or she is ill ratherthan the day to day cares or worries of life. TheAmarillo Ronald McDonald House can housethirteen families and provides them privatespace and a fully stocked kitchen. As an addedbenefit, two ADA rooms with bathrooms areonsite as well as a playroom for the families’children, and a laundry room. Families findthe Ronald McDonald House a place ofrefuge and a place where they can drawstrength from interaction with other residentswho have children in the same situation.The family room at Northwest TexasHospital is a project of Ronald McDonaldHouse. It is staffed with volunteers who helpprovide a respite room at the hospital forparents who spend days and nights withtheir children in the hospital. Opened in1983, Ronald McDonald House has servedthousands of families by offering sanctuary,support, and rest because of the generosity ofresidents of the Amarillo area.RONALDMCDONALDHOUSEOF AMARILLOTHE MARKETPLACE269
