Major Thrust Areas of Research and Achievements<br />

The thrust of the research and field action programmes of the CWS in this year is to reach<br />

out to rural Goa. Sanguem and Canacona have been chosen as field sites. In Canacona,<br />

research and field action will focus on the tribal community.<br />

The courses currently taught by the CWS are “Women’s Movement in India: Concepts,<br />

Struggles and Transitions”, “Gender Issues in Goa”. A third course “Gender, Equality and<br />

Politics” has been submitted to the Board of Studies in Political Science.<br />

The CWS was awarded a grant of Rs. Five Lakhs per annum from the UGC under its XIth<br />

Plan Scheme for Development of Women’s Studies in Universities. Two Project Fellows<br />

were appointed for research and extension.<br />
