Achievements<br />

a. Carboxymethyl cellulose activity has been quantified as a first report of its kind<br />

from the marine protists thraustochytrids. Alkaline protease from a deep–sea<br />

bacterial isolate has been purified. Antimicrobial activity of peptides and alkaloid–<br />

like compounds from mangrove plants of Goa has been established.<br />

b. First report of agglutins in marine algae from India.<br />

c. First report of a broad spectrum antibiotic produced by a salt pan isolate.<br />

d. Halotolerant bacteria showing promising antagonistic activity against<br />

phytopathogenic fungi.<br />

e. Assessment of heavy metal pollution in mangrove/sediments.<br />

f. Ambient Fe concentrations regulate SRA in Mangrove ecosystems.<br />

g. Hypersaline bacteria have been used as probionts in acquaculture.<br />

h. Hypersaline bacteria as biofertililisers of leguminous plants.<br />
