• Sweety Halarnekar and Nutan Sangekar participated in a Society Applications in
Fisheries and Aquaculture using Remotely Sensed Imagery (SAFARI) training
programme on “Remote Sensing and Ecosystem based Management, including
Fisheries”, 11-13 February 2010.
• Nutan Sangekar attended “Satellite Coastal and Oceanographic Research
(SATCORE) Training Programme” organized by INCOIS, Hyderabad, 29-30 April,
2010.

Major Thrust Areas of Research and Achievements
Research on stem cells, cell lines of mollusca, crustecea and other invertebrates;
Neurology electro physiology of nervous and cardiac tissues; Adaptational biochemistry
with respect to membrane structure and cellular functions; nutritional biochemistry with
respect to lipid metabolism and role of PUFA in maintaining the organism in a well being
state; to understand the hepatitis and its prevention; Human genetics concerning
congenital malformations, genetic toxicology, antimutagenicity and antitumor studies of
spices/ bio prospecting, biodiversity and ecodynamic studies pertaining to zooplankton,
ants, beetles etc. of the region; Ornithological studies with respect to freshwater and
estuarine wetlands and ecology of monoculture forest plantation.
