The long pending need of an automated backing up of critical data was achieved by
obtaining a server based backing up solution. All the important data is backed up
periodically thus improving its availability. The infrastructure was upgraded with
addition of higher end IBM Blade server.
The Computer Centre conducted computer literacy programme for ‘D’ group employees
of the University and also conducted computer tests for selection of certain group of
employees. New software was developed for examination section especially for BDS and
B.Pharm. The Computer Centre has also taken up the project to implement Biometric
Finger Print attendance system, Digital Signage, File Tracking System and live interactive
Video Conference facility on the University campus.
Conduct of Examinations
The University conducted examinations in 36 Bachelor’s Degree programmes, 90 Master
Degree programmes and 15 Post Graduate Diploma programmes during the year 2010-
2011.
Library
The Goa University Library and Information Centre was established in the year 1985. It
was then the part of the Post Graduate centre of Bombay University (CPIR). From its
modest collection of books, this Library, now in the 25 th year, has developed into a huge
library with modern facilities.
At present the library has a collection of 135867 books and 8900 volumes of bound
journals. The library subscribes to 417 periodicals of out of which 141 are foreign
journals. The library is getting a large number of publications on gratis too.
The library is automated for its routine works and the entire collection is bar-coded. The
library also offers access to general reference materials like the Encyclopaedia Britannica
and the Encyclopaedia of Science and Technology, The World Book Encyclopaedia, The
Oxford English Dictionary and the Manorama Year book.

Goa University library, being the first phase member of UGC-INFONET programme, avails
the IP authenticated E-journals subscription facility extended by the INFLIBNET Center
Ahmedabad. Goa University stands at the top most ranks among the usage of e-journals.
