Major Thrust Areas of Research and Achievements
• Radiative transfer modeling of visible spectrum of EMR and algorithm
development to retrieve optically active substances from coastal and estuarine
waters (Case II waters) through optical remote sensing and process studies.
• Analysis of aerosol from in-situ and remotely sensed data. Air-sea interaction and
genesis of water masses.
• Nutrients and trace metal distribution in estuaries. Sorption modeling of trace
metals. Biogeochemical cycling of nutrients and trace metals in estuaries and
adjoining coastal waters.
• Impact of pollutants on water quality, sediment composition and biota in estuaries
and adjoining coastal waters.
• Data base and photo-documentation of demersel fishes communities in coastal
and estuarine waters.
• Coastal and estuarine sediment characterization, coastal morphology and
dynamics, impact of mining on lacustrine and estuarine sediments – suspended
and bed-load sediments, Geochemistry of lacustrine & estuarine sediments and
tidal/mudflats sedimentary environment, speciation of elements in estuarine
sediments and bioavailability of metals, magnetic susceptibility of estuarine and
mudflat sediments; reading pollution history through mudflat studies.
