Microbiology and Centre of Excellence to pursue mission mode projects in the area of Marine Microbiology. The objectives of the Cell are to strengthen academic and scientific work in the area of Ocean Sciences and to recommend research projects and monitor their progress. The Cell functions under the guidance of the Management Board (MB) constituted by MoES with Vice Chancellor, Goa University, as the Chairperson and Research Coordinator, OASTC, as Member Secretary. The MB meets in the year to discuss, guide and direct the activities of the Cell. 1. Special joint meeting of OASTC/CoE: A meeting with the members of the Management Boards of the OASTC/CoE of Marine Biology, Annamalai University and Marine Microbiology, Goa University and Heads of Departments under Faculty of Life Sciences of Goa University and Annamalai University was held on January 10-11, 2010 at Annamalai. The members discussed the curriculum structure of National level 5-year multidisciplinary Integrated Post-Graduate degree course on Ocean Science & Technology to be simultaneously offered by both Universities. 2. Steering Committee: The National Steering Committee was held under the chairmanship of Secretary, MoES, met at Goa University on 25 - 26th February, 2010 to review the status of all OASTCs. (iv) Distance Education, Information & Training Infrastructure (DEITI) The DEITI extended its services in carrying out several video recordings of the official programmes which were held on and off the campus of the University. This includes important programmes like Foundation Day programme, University Guest Lectures, Convocation, Children’s Programme, National/International Seminars/Workshops, musical programme ‘Malhar Darshan’ etc. DEITI has produced a documentary on Goa University which was screened on the Foundation Day programme. The studio facilities have been extensively used by private parties on commercial terms for various professional programmes as mentioned below: 1. Video recording (with four camera setup and online editing) of the Quiz in five languages, viz., Portuguese, Konkani, Hindi, French & Marathi for Communicare for the students of Higher Secondary Schools in Goa. This was done in 15 episodes and included recording, editing, titling and production of DVD. 2. Video Recording (three camera setup), audio recording and editing of lectures on Finance by a distinguished speaker at Goa Institute of Management. 3. Video recording of the Workshop ‘5 times and forever’ on film-making organized by Film Goa in collaboration with Goa University. This is an ongoing workshop which was meant for the students, working class people, and professionals from Goa as well as from other states. Around fifty candidates from Goa registered for the course while thirty from other states. The workshop covered training in several areas of film-making such as script writing, acting, editing, lighting, direction, etc. 4. Professionally recorded the outdoor/indoor video shots of three episodes of 13 episode TV serial ‘Chal Pasayek Ya - a Konkani Travel Show’ by Sunlight Media for Doordarshan, Panaji. 52
(v) Study India Programme The SIP is a programme offered to a group of foreign students wanting to pursue study in India to earn credits. The universities/institutions desirous to send a batch consisting not less than five students are required to contact the SIP Co-ordination Committee to prepare and sign a Memorandum of Understanding containing the course outline, timeschedule, credit transfer, and fee structure. The University is successfully running a Study India Program for the students of the College of International Relations, Nihon University, Japan. A batch of eleven students of Nihon University participated in the SIP 2010-11 conducted from September 2010 to February 2011. The program included modules in Indian Languages & Literature, Indian Society, Indian History, Political Systems, Indian Economy, etc., in addition to non-credit modules in Yoga, Indian Art & Music, etc., as well as study tours to north and south India. 53
