Major Thrust Areas of Research and Achievements
Microbial diversity: Coastal, open-ocean and extreme ecosystems. Ecology of salt pans of
Goa-India vis-a-vis its impact on community structure of Halophilic Archaea, pigments in
Haloarchaea; Microbial conversions, remediation of metals, organometals, organic
aliphatic and aromatic pollutants; Biosorption of heavy metals using bacterial, fungal,
Haloachaeal systems, Identification and characterization of relevant microbes;
Bioprospecting for microbial enzymes including extremozymes, antimicrobial
metabolites, bioplastic, exopolysaccharide, bioactive compounds, pigments, biosorbs;
Molecular microbiology of bacterial fish pathogens.

• S. K. Dubey, Biochemical characterization of tributyltin chloride (TBTC) resistant
bacteria from marine environment of Goa, India and isolation of genes encoding

• Saroj Bhosle, Anoxygenic phototrophic bacterial primary productivity and studies
on the endolithic bacterial communities of marine ecosystems, 2009-2012,
Ministry of Earth Sciences, New Delhi, Rs. 10.95 lakhs.
• I. Furtado and Saroj Bhosle (members of nano mission), DST nano mission project
for Goa March, 2010, 5 years, DST, Rs. 2.67 crores.
