After having lost their homes to the
7.8-magnitude earthquake in April 2015,
people living under shelter in a village in
Dhading district (Nepal) listen attentively
to the community radio programme ‘Milijuli
Nepali’ (‘Together Nepal’) launched by
BBC Media Action as a discussion platform
for affected families. This is a good example
of the extent to which societies rely on
community media as accountable sources
of relevant information. In September 2015,
UNESCO hosted an international seminar on
sustainability strategies for community media,
which resulted in a set of recommendations
for strengthening policy worldwide.
