Animal Park (Zoo). The adventure-packed<br />
expedition<br />
begins in the lobby, which<br />
houses exotic souvenirs<br />
another roughly ten million <strong>–</strong><br />
<strong>but</strong> this time in euros <strong>–</strong> a sum<br />
that seemed impossible to<br />
raise. But St. Michaelis is not<br />
just any old church.<br />
Long before the term fundraising<br />
had become fashionable<br />
one of the biggest<br />
and longest donation cam-<br />
from all over the world, some<br />
of them from the estate of<br />
Carl Hagenbeck, the zoo’s<br />
founder. Resembling a boat’s<br />
cabin, the lift carries visitors<br />
to the 158 rooms decorated<br />
in Asian and African style and<br />
furnished with minute attention<br />
to detail. The hotel operators<br />
claim in their promotion<br />
that 90 percent of the interior<br />
decoration was individually<br />
designed or collected as original<br />
antiques on trips. The<br />
journey ends on the fifth floor<br />
with the spa, whose design is<br />
inspired by the Arctic. For corporate<br />
events the hotel can<br />
also be booked as a meetings<br />
and event venue in combination<br />
with the zoo and the tropical<br />
