Michel Novatin joined Steigenberger on January 4 of this
year, not as CEO, as some had speculated, but instead as
operations advisor to the board of directors. According to
Steigenberger statements, Novatin (65), who lives in Geneva/Switzerland,
will definitely not succeed CEO André Witschi,
who left the up-market hotel chain effective December
31, 2009 on a decision felled just shortly before on
December 30. In his function as advisor, Novatin will focus
his attention on operational procedures in all Steigenberger
hotels, on processes, service and other things more, and
will restructure these in cooperation with the Chief Operations
Officer. French-born Novatin previously had been
CEO of the Lifestyle-Shaza Hotels in Dubai. Novatin is a
veteran in the hotel industry and looks back to more than 40
years of professional experience in various countries; his
stations include general manager of various Inter-Continental
and Le Méridien hotels between 1972 and 1986 in Asia,
the Middle East as well as Africa.
Marc Bacon (34) has been appointed Director Marketing of
Lindner Hotels, and since January 1of this year he has been
responsible for the development and monitoring of the
hotel chain’s entire marketing activities. He succeeds Michael
Lemke, who left the company. Bacon originally
learned his trade as qualified assistant in tourism and is
considered an expert in E-Business and CRM. In the past
eleven years, he refined his expertise in client management,
customer retention, and dialogue marketing as well
as mobile marketing. In the past years, he was able to apply
these skills as employee and advisor to renowned businesses
in the tourism industrial enterprises and serviceproviders.
Prior to joining Lindner, Marc Bacon was managing
director of the international Agentur Fullsix.
Jörg Krauß is the new director of the Swissôtel Düsseldorf
/ Neuss hotel. He takes the place of Ronald Nilsson,
who went to Kolkata as GM for the Swissôtel hotel group in
November 2009 to open the first Swissôtel in India. 40year-old
Krauß joins Swissôtel from the NH hotel group,
where he most recently had been in charge of three NH
hotels in the Heidelberg area. Krauß comes from a family of
hoteliers, and is accordingly at home in this business. He
engages in all kinds of sports in his leisure time, and very
much looks forward to his new assignment in the 4-star
Superior Swissôtel Düsseldorf / Neuss which was thoroughly
renovated in 2009. "I’m proud to be given the opportunity
to manage this well-established hotel, and I’m confident
our entire team will be able to further strengthen the
PEOPLE
hotel’s position on the hotly-contested hotel market in
Düsseldorf."
Maren Mehlis has changed from Düsseldorf to Karlsruhe:
before she joined the Karlsruher Messe- und Kongress-
GmbH KMK in mid-January as head of the marketing function,
she had for eight years held identical position with the
Reed group. The 45-year-old qualified event manager and
philosophy graduate thus succeeds Björn Merse, who
joined Kölnmesse. Expo director Britta Wirtz is delighted
with the new team player: "This enables us to close a gap in
our management team, and we are now all set and ready to
tackle the important expo season 2010." Maren Mehlis
learned all about the expo business from the bottom up.
Initially with Reed (Blenheim/UN Miller Freeman/Reed Exhibitions)
as project specialist, for example for the EQUI-
TANA, she advanced to marketing specialist and was later
promoted marketing manager. In 2001, she was entrusted
with establishment and management of a new marketing
department. Her assignment focus was on international
visitor marketing for all Reed tradeshows and public fairs in
Germany (altogether 10 fairs), among these ALUMINIUM,
