Kitzbühel is famed as a
paradise for winter
sports lovers, being considered
the gateway to 170 kilometres
of snow-sure pistes.
Each year international attention
turns to the Streif downhill
run, one of the most dangerous
and difficult ski race
courses in the world. But it’s
not only international skiing
stars who bring a touch of
glamour to the Tyrolean resort
when they battle it out
over mere hundredths of seconds
at the Hahnenkamm
Race – there’s also the high
society of snow and skiing
enthusiasts that has chosen
Kitzbühel as one of its winter
meeting places.
The consequence is that the
8,300 residents of Kitzbühel
can boast a relatively high
number of deluxe hostelries
offering more than 3,300
beds in the four- and five-star
segment, the greatest density
of award-winning restaurants
featuring gourmet fare,
and legendary après-ski
nightlife, further fuelled by a
host of events. All this
against the magnificent backcloth
of Kitzbühel’s historic,
700 year-old town centre
complete with heaps of romantically
wintry scenery.
Planners have repeatedly taken
advantage of Kitzbühel’s
infrastructure, image and flair
in the past to stage winter
events there – a state of affairs
considerably facilitated
as of January 28, 2010. On
that date, just a two-minute
walk from the centre of the
resort and right by the Hahnenkammbahn
cable car, the
K3 officially opened for business.
With the K3 (which
takes its name from the three
words Kongress, Kammer
(chamber) and Kitzbühel) the
locals have indulged in a modern,
multipurpose building
housing the congress centre
KitzKongress as well as the
regional chamber of commerce
and the regional WIFI
training centre.
Towards this end, the more
than 37 year-old chamber of
commerce building and the
adjacent areas were completely
redesigned in the
course of construction work
lasting just six months and
costing roughly EUR 7 million
and the useful area doubled
to 4,000 m².
At the heart of the multifunctional
congress section is a
543 m² function hall designed
to seat up to 750 participants
are a VIP lounge with up to
100 seats on 107 m², the
Kleine Saal measuring 117 m²
and holding up to 144 people
and the Main Seminar Room
seating a maximum of 117
participants and measuring
109 m². Incidentally, dele-
