Antonieta Martinho
Portugal
Antonieta Martinho was born in the Democratic Republic of Congo. She graduated
in medicine from the University of Lisbon in 1974. Antonieta has always shared her
life with art and has a special affinity with painting. She started to learn how to paint
in 2006 and is currently improving her knowledge of the techniques of oil painting
at the National Society of Fine Arts in Lisbon. Her artistic output begins with the
exploration and deconstruction of selected images: she manipulates the various
forms as they emerge, transforming them into new, abstracted metaphors. At
times, some of these allegorical images impress on the imagination an expression,
an atmosphere and an intensity where the symbolism creates a language which
becomes our own.
