Tinoh
Maria Ernestina Bastos (Tinoh) was born in Maputo, Mozambique, in 1962. As
a victim of the process of the decolonization of Mozambique, Tinoh moved to
Portugal at the age of 14 but, even then, she knew that her African roots would
stay in her body, mind, spirit and artistic expression, forever! Since her childhood,
Tinoh has experimented with the visual arts, impressing family and friends with
her works using Styrofoam.
Her art, initially influenced by the creations of such impressionist masters as
Monet, Renoir, Van Gogh and Cézanne, has progressed to the use of an explosion
of colour and texture in order to create original pieces. Movement and liveliness
perfectly describe her paintings.
