Sônia Castro<br />
Brazil<br />
Sônia Castro was born on July 11, 1955<br />
in Salvador, Bahia, Brazil. From an early<br />
age she had aspirations to be an artist<br />
and, at <strong>the</strong> age <strong>of</strong> 16, Sônia produced her<br />
first painting, entitled “Country house<br />
<strong>of</strong> Salvador” and participated in her first<br />
group exhibition in <strong>the</strong> Panorama Gallery.<br />
Her vocation, however, lay in healthcare<br />
and she became a physio<strong>the</strong>rapist working<br />
in a public hospital. Her familiarity with<br />
<strong>the</strong> human form became a natural<br />
reference for her figurative art work. Sônia<br />
also graduated in Business Administration<br />
and Law, going on to practise <strong>the</strong> latter.<br />
She studied too, at <strong>the</strong> Panorama School<br />
<strong>of</strong> <strong>Art</strong>s taking part in workshops under<br />
Pr<strong>of</strong>essor Euller and Waldo Robatto at<br />
<strong>the</strong> Faculty <strong>of</strong> Fine <strong>Art</strong>s in <strong>the</strong> Federal<br />
University <strong>of</strong> Bahia. Sônia has since taken<br />
part in several collective exhibitions.<br />
