applications than spaces available for students, so they made the entrance examinations more<br />

rigorous. Seventy was the passing grade for all subjects, and failure in one course prevented<br />

graduation. Upon graduating, the students were eligible for registration with the National<br />

Midwifery Board. In 1935, the Ministry of Education increased the mandatory training period<br />

for midwives from two to three years at the suggestion of the National Midwifery Board. 334<br />
