leaving his throne proceeded <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> altar and sang<br />

mass, <strong>the</strong> new deacon waiting upon him, and<br />

performing <strong>the</strong> cus<strong>to</strong>mary services. Then kneeling<br />

down <strong>the</strong> emperor received <strong>the</strong> Sacrament from <strong>the</strong><br />

Pope's hands.<br />

Charles now reseated himself on his throne,<br />

deacon's dress, and robed him in <strong>the</strong> jewelled<br />
