A rules engine splits up the decision logic into two parts: the actual decision itself

and how that decision is made. With th e use of a rules engine, you can input a

bunch of facts about the current situation, they swirl around inside a black box,

and out comes a proposal as to what decision you should make—which then gets

approved or rejected by something, be it a human or a machine.
