AUTOMATIC SCB SYSTEM NEW<br />

THE FAST AND SIMPLE WAY TO PERFORM ASPHALT FRACTURE TESTING<br />

The Automatic SCB system, used in conjunction with the S205N Unitronic 50 kN load frame, is an accurate device for conducting mechanical<br />

testing of asphalt mixtures. It can perform various versions of the Semi-Circular Bend (SCB) test for evaluating the fracture characteristics of<br />

asphalt mixtures at intermediate service temperature conditions. Pavement engineers can use these tests to determine the material characteristics<br />

needed for pavement design, quality control and/or quality assurance purposes.<br />

Our Automatic SCB system is able to operate in load-control and displacement-control modes and can accommodate a wide range of test<br />

accessories in order to run several asphalt performance tests, including IDT/TSR, MARSHALL and DIRECT SHEAR.<br />

In particular, <strong>Matest</strong> offers accessories for conducting SCB tests according to EN 12697-44, AASHTO TP124 (recommended by University of<br />

Illinois) and ASTM D8044 (recommended by Louisiana State University). The load and displacement parameters measured by the Automatic<br />

SCB system can be used to predict cracking performance of asphalt mixtures based on the Illinois Flexibility Index (I-FIT) and Critical Strain<br />

Energy Release Rate (Jc).<br />
