Baby boomers. Small thunder showers. [Laughter]
They got a new one. i hate to mention it. It was on children’s
television so I guess it’s all right. Double income, no kids. I’m
glad you said it.
I remember we had a couple of young fellows ringing the
church bell, mooning the church picnic in the park. They were
nothing but a couple of dates because I didn’t think they were
old enough to vote.[Laughter]
It’s how they look today, the image. Ted Kennedy stopped
eating ice cream before each election. He stopped a little early
this year. We’ve got politicians doing aerobics. They put Jane
Fonda right in that machine and they call it electrifying aerobics.
I can remember when Grammie Zelda was throwing.
[Laughter] ¯
And another thing today, I got burnout. Burnout. Can’t do
that any more. I’ll burn out.
A man come up at noon and said, "I can’t mow any more, I’m
all burn-out." Moe said, "I turned his wig." [Laughter]
And I give him one of those 16-ounce gumption cocktails.
That’s equal parts of kerosene, castor oil, and red liniment.
That fired him up and sent him out and kept him smiling.
You may wonder why I’m here. I got invited. [Laughter]
I got a phone call from a fellow I had. His name is Wendall
Mansfield. I think his name was on the phone. He went on
something fierce, the Fire Chiefs of New England. Now, they’re
outstanding that he went on. He wanted somebody outstanding
in the field to speak to them. He just didn’t want anybody. I
didn’t tell him I just come in to answer the phone. [Laughter]
But we got a lot of politicians up our way, outstanding in the
field with a piece of rope and they don’t know whether they
found the rope or lost the horse. [Laughter]
And they keep getting re-elected. He was concerned. He said,
"Fire chiefs, they could do one thing. They marry smart, educated
women so the wives are going to be there."
I said, "Hey, I don’t look down on anybody just because they
got an education." [Laughter]
We got a Vice President of the United States that got an
education through no fault of his own. [Laughter and applause]
But he was concerned. Evidently the fellow, I don’t know if
he’s still here, Don Centracchio, something like that, and e~idently
he sort of put it to Wendall. "Sometimes,"Wendall says,
