spent with the New England Association of Fire Chiefs. Little
did I know as a little senior that this is what I would be doing for
four years of my life. This has been a great year. Phyllis has
been great to work with, Phil. and Pat has great things in store
for her. Thank you for being part of your group and these guys
will take you right where you want to go. [Applause]
DEPUTY CHIEF DAVISON: We have one very superior
person to give his final remarks here as Immediate Past President
of our Association. It is a great privilege and great honor to
recognize at this time for his comments Chief Wendall Mansfield.

PRESIDENT MANSFIELD: Reverend Clergy, officers, directors,
the ladies committee, fire chiefs, and guests: It’s been an
interesting-year for your committees and hopefully it’s been for
the best of the organization. With our move next yeargoing to
the Marlboro Royal Trade Center and the following two years
in Springfield to the Civic Center in conjunction with the celebration
of Springfield’s 200-year Fire Department anniversary,
our workload for the Board of Directors is going to increase
considerably due to the move to a larger facility and especially
the Secretary-Treasurer and Exhibit Committee. Marlboro has
47,000 square feet of indoor exhibit s.pace and in Springfield
we’ll be using the Civic Center s5 in both places we are going to
be able to put most of the exhibi,ts inside.
The headquarters in Marlboro will be the Best Western Plaza
Hotel, which is the largest hotel outside ofthe Boston area with
445 rooms.
In Springfield our headquarters will be the Sheraton Springfield
Monarch Hotel and an airwalk connecting to the Marriott
with over 40 stores and shops and restaurants, all inside. The
Civic Center is a block away. It has 38,500 feet of exhibit space
plus 18,700 square feet of space in the arena where apparatus
can be exhibited.
At this time, I’d like to thank you, all of the committees, for a
very, very good job, excellent job well done and with a special
thanks to President Carl Winslow for all the time he put into the
coordination of the Search Committee in setting up meetings
for a new Secretary-Treasurer position. But I also would like to
thank all of the Vermont group for their support and help at
this time. And would you all please stand for Vermont.
