your usual good chore and brought a lot <strong>of</strong> good will here<br />
tonight. Thank you so very much.<br />
I would like to introduce a person that our new president has<br />
given me his name here. I would like to introduce Fred Stanley,<br />
who is President <strong>of</strong> the <strong>New</strong> <strong>England</strong> Division <strong>of</strong> the International<br />
<strong>Association</strong> <strong>of</strong> Fire Chiefs. Fred, are you here?<br />
[Fred Stanley stood up to applause.]<br />
DEPUTY CHIEF DAVISON: At this time, we’d like to introduce<br />
the President <strong>of</strong> our <strong>Association</strong>, President Wendall<br />
Mansfield, who will introduce the 1992 scholarship recipients.<br />
President Mansfield.<br />
PRESIDENT MANSFIELD: For the benefit <strong>of</strong> those who<br />
haven’t been with us before, this scholarship is given as a<br />
tribute to the late Chief James L. Grote <strong>of</strong> Chester, Connecticut,<br />
for his dedicated service to this organization. At his last year’s<br />
conference we celebrated his 100th birthday, as most <strong>of</strong> you<br />
know, and at that time it was his 69th <strong>Conference</strong>. He attended<br />
all <strong>of</strong> them and he was the only living Charter member <strong>of</strong> the<br />
As;oeiation.<br />
Chief Grote passed away during the past winter and his<br />
presence and words <strong>of</strong> wisdom and guidance are truly going to<br />
be missed by us all. I’m sure that his spirit is watching us here<br />
tonight and he would be very pleased with our two recipients <strong>of</strong><br />
the scholarships.<br />
Would ~he Sergeant please escort Miss Tamera Palmer and<br />
Miss Kerry Wehter and their parnts to the front <strong>of</strong> the room. I<br />
would also like to ask Martin Jordan to come forward with the<br />
awards. And out <strong>of</strong> respect to the State <strong>of</strong> Connecticut because<br />
he was a very close friend <strong>of</strong> Jim’s, I would like to ask Director<br />
Ed Haber <strong>of</strong> Berlin, Connecticut if he would please present the<br />
awards.<br />
I would like to give you the background <strong>of</strong> these two recipients.<br />
Tamera Palmer attended Bellows Free Academy <strong>of</strong> St.<br />
Albans, Vermont and is the daughter <strong>of</strong> Chief Gary Palmer <strong>of</strong><br />
