DEPUTY CHIEF DAVISON: We’ll certainly be ~n good
hands when Danny wins the election.
Thank you very much Danny and family. You have done
your usual good chore and brought a lot of good will here
tonight. Thank you so very much.
I would like to introduce a person that our new president has
given me his name here. I would like to introduce Fred Stanley,
who is President of the New England Division of the International
Association of Fire Chiefs. Fred, are you here?
[Fred Stanley stood up to applause.]
DEPUTY CHIEF DAVISON: At this time, we’d like to introduce
the President of our Association, President Wendall
Mansfield, who will introduce the 1992 scholarship recipients.
President Mansfield.
PRESIDENT MANSFIELD: For the benefit of those who
haven’t been with us before, this scholarship is given as a
tribute to the late Chief James L. Grote of Chester, Connecticut,
for his dedicated service to this organization. At his last year’s
conference we celebrated his 100th birthday, as most of you
know, and at that time it was his 69th Conference. He attended
all of them and he was the only living Charter member of the
As;oeiation.
Chief Grote passed away during the past winter and his
presence and words of wisdom and guidance are truly going to
be missed by us all. I’m sure that his spirit is watching us here
tonight and he would be very pleased with our two recipients of
the scholarships.
Would ~he Sergeant please escort Miss Tamera Palmer and
Miss Kerry Wehter and their parnts to the front of the room. I
would also like to ask Martin Jordan to come forward with the
awards. And out of respect to the State of Connecticut because
he was a very close friend of Jim’s, I would like to ask Director
Ed Haber of Berlin, Connecticut if he would please present the
awards.
I would like to give you the background of these two recipients.
