MAKES 3 DOZEN BARS

13 x 9-INCH BAKING PAN, GREASED OR LINED WITH FOIL (SEE

PAGE 16)

1 (18.25-ounce) package butter pecan cake mix

1 cup (2 sticks) butter, divided

4 large eggs

1 (8-ounce) package cream cheese, softened

1/4 cup pure maple syrup

2 teaspoons maple-flavored extract

1 (16-ounce) package confectioners’

sugar 1 cup chopped pecans

NONSTICK SYRUP MEASUREMENT

To prevent syrup or honey from sticking to the sides of a

measuring cup, lightly spray the inside of the cup first

with nonstick cooking spray.

1. Mix the cake mix, 1/2 cup (1 stick) melted butter, and 1 egg in large bowl

with electric mixer on medium speed until blended (dough will be thick).

Pat evenly into prepared pan.

2. Beat the cream cheese, maple syrup, and maple extract in large bowl with

electric mixer on high speed until blended and smooth. Beat in the

remaining 1/2 cup (1 stick) melted butter and remaining 3 eggs. Beat in

the confectioners’ sugar until blended. Spread over the prepared crust and

sprinkle with pecans.

3. Bake 42 to 45 minutes until golden (do not overbake; bars should be

slightly gooey). Transfer to a wire rack and cool completely. Cut into

bars or squares. Cover and store in refrigerator.
