m8.22 A steel inverted tee shape is used as a boom for a

wall bracket jib crane that can lift loads of up to 5 kN. The

boom is pinned to the wall at A. At point B, the boom is

supported by steel rod BC. The pin at A is located on the

centroidal axis of the inverted tee, but at B the steel rod is

connected to the tee 65 mm above the centroidal axis.

Determine the normal stress at point H, located at the topmost

edge of the inverted tee, 1.0 m from A, when the 5 kN

crane load is in the position shown.
