dmpar means Distributed Memory Parallel (MPI)<br />

smpar is not supported for 4D-Var<br />

Please select 0 for the second option for no nesting<br />

• Compile the <strong>WRF</strong>NL<br />

> ./compile em_real<br />

> ls -ls main/*.exe<br />

If you built the real-data case, you should see wrf.exe<br />

To install <strong>WRF</strong>PLUS:<br />

• Get the <strong>WRF</strong>PLUS zipped tar file from:<br />

http://www.mmm.ucar.edu/wrf/users/wrfda/download/wrfplus.html<br />

• Unzip and untar the file to <strong>WRF</strong>PLUS<br />

> gzip -cd <strong>WRF</strong>PLUS3.1.tar.gz | tar -xf -<br />

> cd <strong>WRF</strong>PLUS<br />

> ./configure wrfplus<br />

Note: wrfplus was tested on following platforms:<br />

IBM AIX: xlfrte 11.1.0.5<br />

Linux : pgf90 6.2-5 64-bit target on x86-64 Linux<br />

Mac OS (Intel) : g95 0.91!<br />

Note: wrfplus does not support:<br />

Linux: Intel compiler V9.1 (not sure for higher versions,<br />

<strong>WRF</strong>PLUS can not be compiled with old version)<br />

Linux : gfortran (The behavior of <strong>WRF</strong>PLUS is strange)<br />

• Compile <strong>WRF</strong>PLUS<br />

> ./compile wrf<br />

> ls -ls main/*.exe<br />

You should see wrfplus.exe<br />

Running Observation Preprocessor (OBSPROC)<br />

<strong>WRF</strong>-VAR<br />

The OBSPROC program reads observations in LITTLE_R format (a legendary ASCII<br />

format, in use since MM5 era). Please refer to the documentation at<br />

http://www.mmm.ucar.edu/mm5/mm5v3/data/how_to_get_rawdata.html for LITTLE_R<br />

format description. For your applications, you will have to prepare your own observation<br />

<strong>WRF</strong>-<strong>ARW</strong> V3: User’s <strong>Guide</strong> 6-7
