Running RIP<br />

Each execution of RIP requires three basic things: a RIP executable, a model data set and<br />

a user input file (UIF). The syntax for the executable, rip, is as follows:<br />

rip [-f] model-data-set-name rip-execution-name<br />

In the above, model-data-set-name is the same model-data-set-name that was used in<br />

creating the RIP data set with the program ripdp.<br />

rip-execution-name is the unique name for this RIP execution, and it also defines the<br />

name of the UIF that RIP will look for.<br />

The –f option causes the standard output (i.e., the textual print out) from RIP to be<br />

written to a file called rip-execution-name.out. Without the –f option, the standard output<br />

is sent to the screen.<br />

e.g. rip -f RIPDP/arw rip_sample<br />

If this is successful, the following files will be created:<br />

rip_sample.TYPE - metacode file with requested plots<br />

rip_sample.out - log file (if –f used) ; view this file if a problem occurred<br />

The default output TYPE is ‘cgm’, metacode file. To view these, use the command ‘idt’.<br />
