A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S SEX COMEDY<br />
Scène 20 :<br />
La scène est en clair-obscur. La ban<strong>de</strong>-son bruit doucement <strong>de</strong> grésillements d’insectes <strong>et</strong><br />
d’appels d’oiseaux <strong>de</strong> nuit.<br />
Plan 1.<br />
Gros plan sur la boule aux esprits, en cuivre, qui luit doucement.<br />
ANDREW (Off) Ok everyone, now I can‘t guarantee this thing is going to work.<br />
Plan 2.<br />
Tous les <strong>personnages</strong> sont réunis en cercle autour <strong>de</strong> la boule. Il fait très sombre, une seule<br />
lampe <strong>à</strong> pétrole éclaire la scène, <strong>à</strong> l’arrière- plan. Andrew est le seul <strong>à</strong> être <strong>de</strong>bout <strong>et</strong> <strong>à</strong> se<br />
déplacer. Brouhaha <strong>de</strong> conversation.<br />
MAXWELL What is it supposed to do?<br />
LEOPOLD Now you are a man of science, what are your views on the unseen world?<br />
(Andrew sort du champ par la droite.)<br />
MAXWELL Well I don‘t believe in ghosts, although I almost became one before. I believe<br />
in science, and sex.<br />
LEOPOLD Not love?<br />
MAXWELL Yes, love at first sight.<br />
Andrew revient dans le champ par la droite. Il passe <strong>de</strong>vant Leopold.<br />
ADRIAN Can there be love without sex?<br />
Andrew va baisser la lampe <strong>à</strong> pétrole <strong>à</strong> l’arrière-plan.<br />
ANDREW Oh som<strong>et</strong>imes I think the two are totally different.<br />
ADRIAN How?<br />

LEOPOLD (Mumbling) Oh, yes, well…<br />
ANDREW Think of that a moment. Ok, join hands everyone. (They join hands. They are<br />
all sitting except for Andrew.) Everyone. Just, just hold your hands. Now everyone, relax. I‘m<br />
<strong>de</strong>aling here with ectoplasm and animal magn<strong>et</strong>ism, OK? All right everyone, concentrate on<br />
the ball, and… make your mind a blank.<br />
MAXWELL Can we look at it?<br />
ANDREW You can look at it, yes.<br />
LEOPOLD (Mumbling) Guess we‘re here for some time…<br />
ANDREW OK, relax. Please take this seriously. Keep concentrating.<br />
