MAXWELL Adrian, dinner was super, thank you.
boule. Dulcie se rapproche de Maxwell. Elle murmure.
DULCIE I‘m afraid of ghosts.
MAXWELL Oh Andrew‘s got everything under control I‘m sure.
ANDREW (Off) Hey, aren‘t you going to bed?
MAXWELL (Off) No, I‘m going to stay downstairs for a while.
ANDREW (Off) Oh?
MAXWELL (Off) Err… I‘m not tired.
ANDREW (Off) Oh really? Oh… you‘re just going to, err…
MAXWELL (Off) Get a little air.
ANDREW (Off) No kidding?
MAXWELL (Off) Only a little, err… It‘s just that it‘s such a pretty night.
Andrew redescend, apparaît dans la zone éclairée.
ANDREW Oh, where‘s Dulcie?
MAXWELL (Off) She‘s exhausted.
ANDREW Oh, is that so? It‘s funny, Maxwell, you don‘t look as depressed now – not
nearly as depressed as you were before.
MAXWELL (Off) No.
ANDREW No?
MAXWELL (Off) I‘m much better.
ANDREW Good! Good, I like to hear that.
On l’entend à nouveau monter quelques
marches, puis s’arrêter.
ANDREW (Off) How come… how do you feel better?
MAXWELL I guess if marriage is the death of hope, then the night before marriage
there‘s still hope.
ANDREW (Off) I don‘t understand. Where do you think you‘re going to walk at such an
hour?
MAXWELL Just around, under the stars, I don‘t know.
ANDREW (Off) Why… do you think maybe down by the brook?
MAXWELL Why are you so concerned, just go to sleep.
ANDREW (Off) Hey, I‘m not concerned.
MAXWELL I‘m gonna take a little walk, it‘s just… good for the digestion.
Then maybe I should, yeah, I
should walk along with you.
MAXWELL (Off) No, no, don‘t bother.
ANDREW Why, I‘d like to digest.
MAXWELL (Off) Andrew, I‘d prefer to be alone
ANDREW Yeah, but why?
MAXWELL Go to bed. I‘m to meet Ariel.
ANDREW You are?
