Officers and civilians must have a baccalaureate degree or higher with 24 business hours.<br />

Commissioned officers, civilians and noncommissioned officers who fail to meet these<br />

prerequisites but who are assigned to a materiel acquisition position will be considered for<br />

enrollment on a case-by-case basis.<br />

COURSE SCOPE:<br />

Course content and instructional techniques are designed to provide participants with a<br />

knowledge and understanding of the Federal Acquisition Regulation/Defense Federal Acquisition<br />

Supplement that students will apply from "cradle to grave" scenarios; contingency contracting and<br />

practical experience on contracting software; application of program management principles to<br />

cover development, cost, schedule and performance of a new weapon system program; and<br />

intermediate contract cost and pricing principles used for simple to complex contract awards. The<br />

classroom presentations will emphasize principles, demonstrate techniques of analysis, and<br />

illustrate typical applications of the analytical techniques. Each area of instruction is<br />

accompanied by practical exercises which are expected to be worked in the group problem<br />

solving sessions as well as outside of the scheduled class time. These exercises, examinations<br />

given during class, and case studies are graded to determine the student's comprehension and<br />

mastery of the material. This course will provide DAWIA level 1 certification training in<br />

contracting.<br />

1: In order to complete the FA 51 basic qualification training requirements, officers must complete<br />

8D-F48/551-51C30, ALMC-IPM, ALMC-AIC, and ALMC-ACL.<br />

Acquisition Center of Excellence (AACoE) on the campus of the <strong>University</strong> of Alabama at<br />
