<strong>Staff</strong> <strong>Rules</strong>, 107.17-107.18<br />
Where an assignment of less than one year, in respect of which daily<br />
subsistence has been paid for six months or more under rule 103.4(c), is extended<br />
to one year or more, the provisions of (i) above do not apply <strong>and</strong> only the lump<br />
sum portion under paragraph (d) will be paid.<br />
(c) Under conditions established by the Secretary-General, the limit of thirty<br />
days provided in paragraph (b) above may be extended to a maximum of ninety<br />
days. The amount of the grant during the extended period shall be up to 60 per<br />
cent of the appropriate prevailing rate.<br />
(d) In addition to any amount of grant paid under paragraph (b) above, a<br />
lump sum calculated on the basis of the staff member’s net base salary <strong>and</strong>, where<br />
appropriate, post adjustment, may be paid under conditions established by the<br />
Secretary-General. The lump sum shall be payable at the rate of one month’s net<br />
base salary <strong>and</strong> post adjustment if the assignment is for less than three years <strong>and</strong><br />
two months net base salary <strong>and</strong> post adjustment if the assignment is for three years<br />
or more. If an assignment for less than three years is extended to three years or<br />
more, the staff member shall be paid at that time a second one month lump sum.<br />
(e) Where both husb<strong>and</strong> <strong>and</strong> wife are staff members who are travelling<br />
at the <strong>Authority</strong>’s expense to report for duty upon initial appointment, <strong>and</strong><br />
taking into account rule 104.9(d), the daily subsistence allowance portion of the<br />
assignment shall be paid to each in respect of himself or herself. If they have<br />
a dependent child or children, the assignment grant in respect of such child or<br />
children shall be paid to the staff member on whom the child is recognized to<br />
be dependent.<br />
(f) If both husb<strong>and</strong> <strong>and</strong> wife would otherwise qualify for the lump sum<br />
portion of the grant, such lump sum shall be paid only to the spouse whose lump<br />
sum portion yields the higher amount.<br />
(g) In cases where the staff member has not completed the period of service<br />
in respect of which the assignment grant has been paid, the grant shall be adjusted<br />
proportionately <strong>and</strong> recovery made under conditions established by the Secretary-<br />
General who, in exceptional circumstances, may decide to waive recovery.<br />
(h) The Secretary-General may, in appropriate cases, authorize payment of<br />
all or part of the assignment grant where the <strong>Authority</strong> has not been required to pay<br />
travel expenses upon the appointment of a staff member regarded as internationally<br />
recruited under rule 104.7.<br />
Excess baggage<br />

Excess baggage <strong>and</strong> unaccompanied shipment<br />
(a) For the purpose of these rules, “excess baggage” shall mean baggage in excess<br />
of accompanied baggage carried without extra charge by transportation companies.<br />
(b) <strong>Staff</strong> members travelling by air shall be entitled to reimbursement of<br />
the cost of excess baggage for themselves <strong>and</strong> their eligible family members to<br />
the extent of the difference between their free baggage allowance <strong>and</strong> the free<br />
