the company is also involved in sustainable development.
its commitment with the environment is evidenced by their
integrated vineyard management and implementation of
clean production policies that have allowed the winery to
significantly reduce water consumption and systematize
waste management. As a major world player, Concha y toro
also sponsors some ecological initiatives, like trees for cities,
a foundation devoted to urban reforestation in english cities.
in this particular case, the winery makes a sizable contribution
originating in a percentage of palo Alto brand sales.
SUSTAINABILITY
Another local player that has sponsored –through sales of a
wine range- a social responsibility prone ngo is Undurraga.
this project steered by hugo salvestrini, product manager,
consists of allocating a portion of revenues from sales of each
bottle of Aliwen to oies, a Chilean foundation devoted to
helping Mapuche youngsters to complete their high-school
education. the significance of this project, explains Carolina
guzmán, communications manager, is that salvestrini not
only came up with the idea, but also acts as a link between
the foundation and Undurraga employees, thus creating
a true bond. Although the winery is involved in social
support initiatives, like part-time jobs for mothers and higher
education certification, the oies project was unique for the
