Samples at the 2008 Carmenère al Mundo Competition organized by the Chilean<br />
Association of Agricultural Engineers-Enologists were tasted and rated by 10<br />
foreign and 16 local judges. Awards included 36 gold medals and 24 silver medals,<br />
as well as 3 trophies in the following categories: 100% Carmenère (Concha y<br />
Toro Winemaker’s Lot Carmenère No. 148, 2007), Blend (Caliterra Reserva 2007)<br />
and Experimental (Tinajas del Maule Carmenère Experimental 2008). The FIJEV<br />
(International Federation of Wine and Spirits Journalists and Writers) Award for<br />
the highest-rated Carmenère was presented to Viña Portal del Alto.<br />
