Land and packaging
Rethink the way we grow, source, create,
package and deliver our products to minimize
our impact on land.
Climate Change
Reduce the carbon footprint of our
operations.
Community
Respect and responsibly use natural
resources in our businesses and in the local
communities we serve.
% Global goals
R Continue to lead the
industry by incorporating
at least 10 percent
recycled polyethylene
terephthalate (rPET) in
our primary soft drink
containers in the U.S.,
and broadly expand the
use of rPET across key
international markets.
R Reduce packaging
weight by 350 million
pounds—avoiding the
creation of one billion
pounds of landfill waste
by 2012.
R Work to eliminate all
solid waste to landfills
from our production
facilities.
> MEXico PROGRESS
R Gatorade presentations of 500 ml,
755 ml and 1 liter incorporate at least
10% recycled resin. The commitment
is to progressively incorporate recycled
resin to every beverage bottle.
R We have started our packaging and
display stands transformation process
increasing the reuse of materials and
use of environmentally friendly solutions.
By 2010, 90% of the Quaker portfolio
migrated to an environmentally friendly
packaging.
R With an integral waste management
system we have been able to remove,
reduce, reuse and recycle materials.
As a result of this management
process we have been able to recycle
cardboard in about 27,000 tons
annually.
% Global goals
R Improve our electricity
use efficiency by 20
percent per unit of
production by 2015.
R Reduce our fuel use
intensity by 25 percent
per unit of production
by 2015.
R Commit to an absolute
reduction in GHG emissions
across global operations.
> MEXico PROGRESS
R Through heat recovery systems
and micro turbines use we are able
to reuse the heat generated in our
processes as a source of energy.
Thanks to the 2,956 solar domes
installed in our manufacturing facilities
and distribution centers we
reduced the use of electricity.
R We continuously renew our fleet,
while designing ways to improve
our logistics by redesigning routes,
reducing trips and distributing cargos
resulting in a more efficient use
of fuels and less emissions.
In 2010 we started to use hybrid
truck-trailers (diesel-electric) made
in Mexico for product distribution
purposes.
R We have implemented technologies
that allow us to harness energy
as efficiently as possible and replaced
our fleet with cleaner and more
efficient vehicles.
Through programs and partnerships
we have been able to report,
mitigate and offset part of our
emissions.
% Global goals
R Apply proven
sustainable agricultural
practices on our farmed
land.
R Provide funding,
technical support and
training to local farmers.
R Promote environmental
education and best
practices among our
associates and business
partners.
R Integrate our policies
and actions on human
health, agriculture and
the environment to
make sure that they
support each other.
> MEXico PROGRESS
R We have worked hand-in-hand
with local producers to put in
place advanced irrigation technologies
and techniques which
allowed us to achieve water savings
up to 30% per hectare in
potato fields.
R In 2008 we partnered with Sembrando
Trabajo Foundation to
develop an agricultural sustainable
project by means of providing
technical and business training,
technology transfer and contract
based agriculture whit small and
medium corn producers.
R In 2009 the Mexican Health, Food
Safety and Food Quality Service
awarded one of our largest potato
producers with the Good Agricultural
Practices Certificate.
R We have integrated our agriculture
and environmental policies in
programs like Educampo, where
we have been able to increase
yields as well as to put in place
environmental initiatives such as
Clean Fields for the right disposition
of agrochemical containers.
