The shocks were selectedconsidering their depths, magnitudes, and size and type ofdocumented environmental damage. After analysis of seismicshaking effects, we found that earthquakes in Colombia could beassigned INQUA intensities in the range 6-11. For a subgroupof seven earthquakes, we found positive correlations betweenINQUA intensities and Mw and between INQUA intensities andModified Mercalli intensities with correlation coefficients of 0.7and 0.6, respectively. The INQUA scale allowed comparisonof local earthquakes with earthquakes worldwide and a betterunderstanding of the ground response in Colombia to theshaking during shallow earthquakes. In general, the INQUAscale provides a good estimate of affectation from earthquakesthat may complement other measures of intensity. Additionalpublished data indicates stability of our estimates of intensitiesand encourages application of this scale to both historical andrecent earthquakes in México.SIS-6PROYECTO INTEGRAL DE EVALUACIÓNSISMOTECTÓNICA (PINES) PARAESTRUCTURAS CIVILES DE LA C.
