Learning about Atoms
In the chemistry unit, fifth graders learned
about the structure of atoms. They discovered
how to find the number of protons, neutrons
and electrons for different elements
using the periodic table.
Franco Bautista and Salvador Shinki making an atom model
and learning how to put the correct number of electrons in
each orbit.
Addition Properties
Fifth graders learned about associative and
commutative properties through recognizing
patterns.
5 th Grade
Emilia Díaz and Santiago Corrales developed addition
properties by analyzing different ways to add.
Variables
In the first unit, the fifth graders experimented
with different variables to find out if they
could change the number of swings in a pendulum.
They tried with the mass, the release
position and the length of the string. They
also learned how to design a controlled experiment.
Parallelograms
Students developed the concept of some
geometric shapes working together, discussing
different perspectives and recognizing
relationships among quadrilaterals.
Camila Flores and Nicolás Cornejo discovered that the
length affects the number of swings in a pendulum.
Mira Guerra-García, Nicolás Cornejo, José Carlos
González and Carla Chiong enjoy discussing attributes of
quadrilaterals.
