Natural Disasters<br />
In this cooperative group project, our stud<strong>en</strong>ts<br />
had to work together to research and pres<strong>en</strong>t<br />
information orally about natural disasters.<br />
They first chose amongst themselves a natural<br />
disaster and th<strong>en</strong> had a two-week period to<br />
research and prepare their final oral pres<strong>en</strong>tation.<br />
Stud<strong>en</strong>ts were evaluated on their use of<br />
<strong>en</strong>glish, pronunciation, intonation and ability to<br />
use visual aids to assist their pres<strong>en</strong>tation.<br />
In this powerpoint pres<strong>en</strong>tation, Santiago Carpio, Antonia<br />
Milla de León, Rafaella Céspedes, and Rodrigo Ausejo<br />
pres<strong>en</strong>ted various aspects of an earthquake.<br />
Short Story<br />
As part of the Preliminary English Test (PET),<br />
stud<strong>en</strong>ts write a short story. In the unit Famous<br />
People, stud<strong>en</strong>ts had to imagine they<br />
were famous people and write a short story<br />
for an international magazine. For this assignm<strong>en</strong>t,<br />
stud<strong>en</strong>ts had to submit a hundred<br />
word, double-spaced and well-structured<br />
short story. They had to include examples<br />
of conditionals as well as adjectives and<br />
adverbs to be more descriptive. Finally, stud<strong>en</strong>ts<br />
had to include a prompt line. In this<br />
case, the story had to begin with this s<strong>en</strong>t<strong>en</strong>ce,<br />
“If I hadn’t come home early...”.<br />
