Clove Farmers Partner
The name “Kombi” for some people
does not sound strange anymore. The
new district as a result of Eris District
extension since 1962 has been known as one
of the largest clove producers in Minahasa,
even in the entire North Sulawesi Province. In
addition to its abundance produce, the clove
from Kombi is famous for its good quality. Geographic
location of Kombi which is on the
mountain range is suitable for the cultivation
of this type of plant. No wonder if most of Kombi
communities are interested in developing clove
commodity type.
The financial institution as farmers’ partner
plays a very good role here. The intended
form of relationship is the utilization of business
capital loan provided by financial institution
by clove farmers. Not only from state and
private owned banks, such business capital is
also provided by financial institution such as
cooperation. One of such cooperations is Save
Loan Cooperation Ayamen Mandiri. The Cooperation
that has its office at Kombi Village
has been the partner of the community in Kombi
Regency for a long time.
The relation between KPS Ayamen Mandiri
and the community is quite harmonious. The
favorable interaction that has been created
since such KPS was still in the form of Village
Unit Cooperation (KUD)— changed to become
KSP on 6 January 2005. It is obvious that KSP
Ayamen Mandiri has been widely known.
KPS Ayamen Mandiri is the reason of Alfi’s
smile above. Alfi is one of the most active customers
of KSP Ayamen Mandiri. “This cooperation
helps us a lot. We used to borrow money
from daily bank, but we found it difficult to return
the money because we had to deposit
every day. Now we choose cooperation because
we can pay after the harvest,” said Alfi,
who is also one of the farmers there.
Even though it is only four years old, this
cooperation has shown its favorable performance
pattern. In terms of membership, for example,
the number increases from time to time.
Until 2008, the number of KSP members
reached up to 120 people, and its service coverage
became wider. Then, KSP Ayamen
Mandiri was not limited to only operate in Kombi
Village, but also had spread to several villages
in Kombi Regency.
In line with that, the trust of the community
becomes a supplement vitamin for KSP
Ayamen Mandiri administrators to keep acting,
and even innovating. The peak performance
of its fourth year, KSP Ayamen Mandiri was
trusted to manage Agribusiness/Sector KSP
Aid Fund Program in 2006. Due to this program
also, KSP Ayamen Mandiri cooperated
with two banks in North Sulawesi, namely Sulut
Bank and Prisma Dana Bank. Sulut Bank is the
distributing bank for agribusiness scrolling fund
in the amount of Rp 1 billion, meanwhile Prisma
Dana Bank has the role of fund supplier for
KSPs that are lack of fund to fulfill loan request,
especially on specific moments. “In the planting
season there are many members who apply for
loan. Usually we are lack of fund,” said Chairman
of KSP Ayamen Mandiri, Hesky Z.P Montong.
The service of KSP Ayamen Mandiri for
denizens, encourages other denizens who are
non members, to apply for membership. Indeed,
not all applications could merely be
granted. However it is clear that such number
of members increase implicates the cooperation
financial balance. According to Hesky Z.P
Montong, the value of asset of KSP in 2008
was at the level of Rp 1,354,575,000. This
number is quite fantastic if it it is compared to
the number when the cooperation was first
established which was only Rp 40 million. It
will not be exaggerating to say that KSP
Ayamen Mandiri, now, has become one of superior
cooperations in Minahasa.
To minimize the amount of non performing
loan, regular visits and development on
members are conducted. It is also quite often
that Chairman of KSP directly participates and
has dialogs as well as listens to the grievances
of members.
