Moving Forward Together With
Seaweed Farmers
Labone Community is famous as sea
weed cultivator community. Initially,
they were fishermen. However, along
witht the development of seaweed cultivation
that is considered as more potential, one by
one the community members changed jobs
to become seaweed farmers. Geographically,
Labone Village community is on the edge of
Buton strait which is suitable for seaweed cultivation.
Even though the price of seaweed
is rather unstable, this business is considered
as more prospective compared to being
small fishermen.
Again, minimum capital becomes the
reason for the seaweed farmers as the difficulties
in escalating their business. To apply
for loan from the bank, there are too many
administrative requirements that thay could not
meet. On the other hand, market demand for seaweed
increased. Without enough capital, such seaweed
farmers obviously could not gain much.
Such anxiety finally ended up in meeting
forum of Tunas Sari Save Loan Cooperation
members. Seaweed farmers complained.
“There seems to be a great wall in
front of us,” said La Saimuna, Chairman and
Manager of KSP Tunas Sari describing the
feeling of seaweed farmers who were his
members. In 2003, when there was news that
Ministry of KUKM launched capital strengthening
program for KSPs that have UKM in
agribusiness sector, administrators of KSP
Tunas Sari agreed to submit a proposal.
Equiped with stable financial balance, they
were certain that such proposal will be
granted. As a note, in 2003, KSP Tunas Sari
had had members up to 2,000 people with
capital that reached Rp 3,092,275,276. A year
later, the prayers of Lasalepa seaweed farmers
were granted. KSP Proposal to obtain
capital strengthening in the amount of Rp 1
billion through Capital Strenghtening for KSP
Agribusiness Sector Program was approved.
A little flash back, save loan cooperation
developed from a business unit of Save
Loan in KUD of Tunas Sari that has been
established since 1992 in Labone Village,
Lasalepa District. Since this USP from KUD
of Tunas Sari grew fast and became the main
business unit, then in 1995 it was decided to
become independent with the name KSP
Tunas Sari. Now, years later, due to the touch
of the administrators’ cold hands, KSP Tunas
Sari has developed its save loan business.
Since receiving scrolling capital
strengthening for Agribusinees/Sector Program,
the number of KSP members has begun
to go up. In 2004 the number of members
had reached 2,468 people with a total
capital value of Rp 5.67 billion.
Just to present a statistic data, in 2008,
the amount of loan scrolled to the members
reached Rp 11,84 billion with a business volume
of Rp 14.34 billion. Such achievement
increased by 28 percent if compared to the
financial achievement in 2007 with a business
volume of Rp 11.21 billion. From the output
of loan distribution during such Financial
Year of 2008, KSP Tunas Sari obtained a
business revenue (HU) with a value of
Rp823,9 million (see table).
Such favorable financial performance
was also in line with scrolling fund return performance
in the amount of Rp 1 billion, that
must be paid up wihtin 10 years. According
to Sultra Bank data KSP Tunas Sari is a discipline
cooperation in paying the installment.
Up to the end of 2008, KSP Tunas Sari had
fulfilled its obligation in returning loan in the
amount of Rp 450 million.
