KSP CIPTA MANDIRI

Independent at a Young Age
They are pilgrims from Java land. A
book titled “A Story from Buru Island”
says that they have converted the dry
land of Buru Island to become an island
where ‘white gold’ (the term for sago palm)
and ‘red gold’ (the term for timber tree wood)
flow; they also turned forests and deserts to
become rice and crops. They are the transmigrated
people, who are successful in continuing
the dreams of the early pilgrims in this
island who turned Buru island into rice barn,
and some other people call it as the food island.
For the natives, who mostly work as
sandal wood oil refiners, now Buru Island has
become rice barn for Maluku area. Each year,
this island supplies 2,500 tons of rice. Agriculture
and plantation are the breath of Buru
island. These two sectors contribute 70% of
the total revenue produced by this island.
From such characteristics, various life
dynamics in this island are not far from the
two sectors’ affairs, including the dynamics
of cooperation matters, which also developed
as Buru island community activities supporter
in motoring their activities of farming and
gardening. Cipta Mandiri Save Loan Cooperation,
one of prominent cooperations in
Maluku Province, was also born from the
dynamics of those two sectors. When it was
established in 2003, KSPCM was still in the
form of KSU with rice trading business as its
mainstay.
The history of KSP Cipta Mandiri started
from a Various Business Cooperation Cipta
Mandiri. This cooperation was present among
the resistance of cooperation business in
Waeapo. When it was established in 2003,
there were 23 first members. From them working
capital in the amount of Rp 6 million was
collected, deriving from main savings and
members’ compulsory savings. It was a convenient
store (waserba) that was first managed
by KSU Cipta Mandiri (KSU-CM).
In 2005. KSP Cipta Mandiri was established,
and this KSP is the “biological son” of
KSU Cipta Mandiri. Looking at the track record
of KSU Cipta Mandiri and the consistency of
its administrators as well as the strategic value
of this cooperation on the area economic
growth, in the same year (2005) KSP Cipta
Mandiri was granted a trust to become a member
of sector scrolling fund strengthening program
from Ministry of Cooperation and Small
Middle Scale Enterprises. This cooperation
then received a capital strengthening loan in
the amount of Rp 500 million. This policy is
based on Article 7 of State Minister of Cooperation
and Small Middle Scale Business
Regulation No. 12/2005 which states that
“Minister may stipulate KSP/USP-Sector Scrolling
Fund Receiver Cooperation particularly
which is considered as having strategic role
among others for the need of development of
KSP/USP-Cooperation in the developing areas
and border/remote areas. In this context,
Buru Island is considered as having the strategic
position as ‘rice barn’ in Maluku Province.
Even tough it is still young, KSP Cipta
Mandiri has given examples to the community
in Buru Island that hard work is the beginning
of success. In its relatively young age,
four years, KSP Cipta Mandiri now owns asset
with a value of Rp 1,5 billion—in which
scrolling fund in the amount of Rp 500 million
is included.
