Having become subor<strong>di</strong>nates of the<br />
Malatesta family, the Agolanti family<br />
were for years considered the rulers of<br />
the county of Arcione. The walls and<br />
area surroun<strong>di</strong>ng the castle have<br />
recently been restored and it now hosts<br />
exhibitions and other events.<br />

Contemporanea con cinquanta<br />

Dopo le invasioni e le ruberie dei pirati<br />
turchi negli ultimi anni del XVI secolo, lo<br />
Stato Pontificio decise finalmente <strong>di</strong><br />
costruire un serie <strong>di</strong> torri lungo la<br />
marina per <strong>di</strong>fendere gli abitanti della<br />
costa. Oggi contiene il Museo delle<br />
Conchiglie con una collezione <strong>di</strong><br />
conchiglie, molluschi e scheletri <strong>di</strong><br />
organismi marini.<br />
Following invasions and looting by<br />
Turkish pirates in the late 16 th century,<br />
the Papal State finally decided to build a<br />
series of towers along the marina, in<br />
order to defend the coast’s inhabitants.<br />
Nowadays, the tower houses the Shell<br />
Museum with collections of shells,<br />
molluscs and a number of marine<br />
organism skeletons.<br />
