The 2016 edition of the Alufoil Trophy, the contest
promoted by EAFA - European Aluminium Foil Association,
crowned the same winner as previous
editions – namely, the versatility of aluminium foil.
Every analysis of the judges’ verdict, that was presented
last April, shows surprisingly that in the various applications
there is always one characteristic that every time
singlesoutaluminiumfoilasthekeyplayerininnovation:its
versatility, or it capability of providing excellent results in
many roles and with various performances.
Foil is the winning element in a product that is characterizedbytheofferofverydifferentperformances.Ifinone
case the winner may be characterised by foil’s well-known
feature of acting as a barrier to gases and humidity, in other
products the ease with which it may be deformed is used
to obtain, for instance, a marked reduction in the use of
raw materials. Again, the metal which is known for its leading
role in more traditional economies may be presented
inrolesthatarejustasimportantinsectorssuchasalternative
and renewable energy, and as the control element
in the most modern batteries. The novelties that are most
striking in the foil segment are those that exploit its wellknown
versatility connecting it to technological aspects
that increase the product’s total value. For instance, when
foil is used in packaging it is simultaneously capable of improving
the preservation of the contents and of increasing
performances from the point of view of ecology, respectfortheenvironmentandconservationofresources.
