manufacturer, Amcor, is the heir of research activity on<br />
Al-Fe-Si 8xxx series alloys which developed in Europe<br />
inthe‘70’sand‘80’s.Inthiscase,byrecoveringtheresults<br />
of this research work and pairing them up with “the<br />
best” also in terms of bi-oriented polyamide and PVC for<br />
pharmaceutical use, a product that was already considered<br />
excellent was further improved.<br />
Sustainability and innovation<br />
Another product that was awarded a prize, manufactured<br />
by Hydro, is hidden in a lithium-ion battery: HyLectral<br />
is a sheet in hyper-pure aluminium whose fundamental<br />
function is stabilizing the accumulation of energy,<br />
while achieving a good continuity over time of the capability<br />
of reaching a good charge level. The conductor<br />
must have a low electrical resistivity, a good breaking<br />
load and a perfectly degreased surface. The sheet must<br />
bethereforerawandchemicallydegreased.Theprize<br />
awarded to this product spurs an evident connection<br />
with the potential development of aluminium batteries<br />
to provide power to electric vehicles “lightly”. These<br />
batteries have been eagerly awaited for over 50 years<br />
and should replace fuel with the development of service<br />
stations, more similar to coaching inns where horses<br />
could be changed than to current gas stations: the<br />
exchange would concern a light but sufficient block of<br />
perfectly recharged batteries. Today interesting news is<br />
arriving from Standford and other universities. We hope<br />
that these hopes will be prize-winners in forthcoming<br />
editions of the Alufoil Trophy.<br />
Another product definitely deserved to win a prize, if<br />
only for the long wait that other foil- based packaging<br />
systems,ifnotthisone,hadtoendurebeforebeingfinally<br />
adopted by Illy.<br />
The renowned Trieste-based coffee producer indeed<br />
displays in high-quality bars and cafeterias much less aluminium<br />
in packaging with respect to competing brands<br />
present in supermarkets of practically all quality levels.<br />
Specifically, Illy coffee cans are typically made of tinplate,inthreeparts,withaclearlyvisibleweldingonone<br />
end. Due to the thick plate sides, lid and good tinkering ,<br />

Un altro prodotto premiato, realizzato da Hydro, è nascosto in<br />
una batteria al litio: HyLectral è un foglio in alluminio iperpurochehalafondamentalefunzionedistabilizzarel’accumulo<br />
energetico, ottenendo nel tempo una buona continuità nella<br />
capacità di raggiungere un elevato livello di carica.<br />
